Alvin L. Flynt

Alvin L. "Al" Flynt of Bentonville, Ark., died Dec. 28th, 2012, in Rogers, Ark. He was born March 29, 1914, in Lonoke County, Ark., to William Stephen Flynt and Lola Bell Baldwin Flynt. Al graduated from State Teacher's College (now UCA) in 1939 where he was captain of the basketball team and editor of the yearbook. He served in the Air Force during WW II and retired from the Reserves in 1974 with the rank of Lt. Col. In 1943, Al married Wintress Middleton Flynt. Following his discharge from active duty after WW II ended, Al and Wintress moved to Cincinnati, Ohio, and purchased the third franchise for Frito Corn Chips. In 1951 they returned to Bentonville to be closer to family. Al sold real estate for United Farm Agency before purchasing Tucker Abstract Company in the late 1950s. He was owner/manager until his retirement in 1989. Al was a long time member of First Presbyterian Church of Bentonville where he served as an elder. He was active in the Kiwanis Club and Arkansas Land Title Association. In the early 1960s he served as a Justice of the Peace for Benton County. After retirement, Al and Wintress enjoyed traveling to Texas and Florida for the winter. At age 75 he learned to play tennis. In his earlier years, Al was an expert fly fisherman, fishing White River before Beaver Lake. Most of all he loved spending time with family and friends. Al is survived by his daughters, Betty Flynt of Bentonville, Ark., and Cindy Walters and husband, John, of Bentonville, Ark.; one brother, William Flynt and his wife, Carolyn, of Fayetteville, Ark.; one sister-in-law, Ruth Clark of Indianapolis, Ind.; two beloved grandchildren, Kristian Walters of Bentonville, Ark., and Courtney McClintock and her husband, Brad, of Olathe, Kan.; three great-grandsons, Braxton, Hayden and Reece McClintock; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Wintress, in 1993; his parents; his stepfather, W.H. Deese; brother, Clayton Flynt; sister, Emma Flynt Bowie; stepbrothers, C.W. Deese, Wilson Deese and Richard Deese; and stepsister, Oda Deese Rouse. Visitation will be Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013, from 10:30-12:30 at Stockdale–Moody Funeral Services in Rogers, Ark.
