Jeanne Boor Harris, 87, of Bella Vista, Ark., gently passed away amidst her loving family on the morning of Dec. 11, 2012. Jeanne was born April 2, 1925, in Kansas City, Kan. She was the first child of James and Jeanette Boor. Jeanne had one sibling, "a little brother, Bob, and growing up they were two peas in a pod. They had a sweet admiration for each other that never waned. Jeanne went to Wyandotte High School in her hometown. She fell crazy in love with this handsome boy named Virgil Harris, who was two years older. America was at war and Virgil, like most of his peers, enlisted in the service, joining the Army Air Corps. In May of 1942 they were married, knowing they couldn't bear to be apart. They would have seventy years and they used them to create a good life together. Jeanne and Virgil lived a short while in Laredo, Texas, during the war. They lived for several years in Greensboro, N.C., and later for several years in Portland, Ore. In between these periods she and Virgil always returned home, which was Overland Park, Kan. Jeanne was a homemaker, and she was a good one. She took pride in always maintaining a beautiful home, and making it the perfect place for her family. She loved to entertain, and would have frequent dinner parties for their many friends. Her home was always the place where the whole family would celebrate Christmas, and birthdays, and any special occasion. Jeanne and Virgil raised three children of whom she was immensely proud. Scott and Becky were near grown when Jeff was born, and so she kept a longer commitment to mothering than most. Jeanne was a great Mom. While living in Portland Jeanne and Virgil took up golf together and she got pretty good at it. She hit two holes in one. One might have just been a lucky shot, but a second one proved it was skill! Jeanne played golf at every opportunity and developed a reputation for intrepidness, taking on the rainy climate of Oregon and the heat and wind of Kansas when many physically hardier types would not. After Virgil retired they played together very often. Their love of golf brought them to Bella Vista and finally even to a home right on a golf course. Jeanne enjoyed the last decade of her life living just where she wanted to be. Jeanne leaves behind her husband Virgil, with whom she celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary last May, her son Scott and daughter-in-law Hope of Plano, Texas, her daughter Becky and son-in-law Kirby who live in Rogers, Arkansas on Beaver Lake, and her son Jeff, of that home on the golf course in Bella Vista. She also leaves her beautiful and talented grandchildren Robin, Alison, Rob, Lauren, and Michael and their loved ones, including a still growing number of great grandchildren. If she had a regret it would be in missing the unfolding of their lives. She was always there for her family. Whenever we looked for her we couldn't fail to find her, for her beautiful face was always looking in our direction, always looking for us. A brief memorial service will be held for Jeanne at the Chapel on the Creeks in Rogers, Ark., at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012. The family asks that memorial contributions be made in her honor to Circle of Life Hospice of Northwest Arkansas, where she received exceptional attention and where her family found comfort and care.
