James Martin Burns

James Martin Burns, age 92, of Rogers died Dec. 7, 2012, at Mercy Medical Center in Rogers. He was born in Stuart, Iowa, on June 26, 1920, to Daniel James and Agnes (Doud) Burns. Jim was raised in Stuart, Iowa, graduating from Stuart High School in 1937. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving both in World War II and during the Korean Conflict. He served in the Corps of Engineers and was the recipient of the Bronze Star. On July 12, 1944, he married Loretta "Lollie" Wedemeyer, and they had been married over 62 years at the time of her death in 2007. Survivors include his children, Michael Burns of Arlington, Mass., Mary Kay Podlecki (Alexander) of Ewing, N.J., Rita Burns of Farmington, Mich., and Karen Burns of Council Bluffs, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Loretta "Lollie" Burns; a son, Patrick Burns; and a sister, Regina Parker. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2012, at Rollins Funeral Home in Rogers. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at noon on Wednesday at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, by Monsignor David LeSieur. Private inurnment will be in the columbarium at St. Stephen Catholic Church in Bentonville. Memorials, in lieu of flowers, may be made to St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church.
