Minerva Nell Blachly Houser

Minerva Nell (Blachly) Houser, of Springdale, Ark., was born Aug. 21, 1923, in Kaw City, Okla., to Dr. Harry L. and Nellie (Reed) Blachly. She departed this life Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2012, in her home, surrounded by family, at the age of 89. She was united in marriage to Alfred Houser on June 27, 1924. They moved to Springdale in the early 1960s from Norman, Okla. Minerva was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Springdale, where she belonged to the Builders Sunday School Class. She had also been president of the United Methodist Women's Group for several years, as well as a member of the Springdale Booklovers Club, Growing Fifty-Niners Home Extension Club, and the Springdale Red Hat Group. She also enjoyed spending time with her family. Minerva was preceded by her parents; her husband; one daughter, Mary Sue Houser; and two sons, infant John Charles Houser and James Evan Houser. She is survived by one daughter, Ann and husband, Mark Phillips, of Malvern, Ark.; one son, Jeff Hauzous and wife, Susan, of Lawton, Okla.; four grandchildren, Mark Houser, Sam Houser, Kristin (Phillips) Boyer, and Lauren (Phillips) Irwin; five great-grandchildren; as well as many friends. Visitation will be Friday, Dec. 7, 2012, from 12 to 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church with the funeral following. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church Foundation or Circle of Life Hospice.
