Marjorie Ann Brown, 89, longtime Fayetteville resident, died July 15, 2012, in San Isidro, Costa Rica. She was born Aug. 11, 1923, in Fayetteville to John Sherwood Moore and Lucy Saunders Moore. Ann earned a bachelor's degree of arts from the University of Arkansas and became a teacher at Washington Elementary. She then opened a private school, Brown's Kindergarten, where she educated generations of children. She was very active with the Democratic Women and was invited to attend Jimmy Carter's inauguration. Ann was dedicated to projects that served students, poor, elderly and that conserved and protected the earth's resources. She helped build many cottages on her farm to provide low-cost housing to students and artists. Ann is survived by her children, Joshua T. Brown of San Isidro, Costa Rica, John Brown of Fayetteville, Carol Ann Small of Hot Springs, Mary Ellen Brown of Texas and Kelly Brown of Huntsville. Ann is also survived by many beloved grandchildren; and former husband, J. Turner Brown of Fayetteville. A memorial service will be held at Mount Comfort Presbyterian Church, 3816 W. Mount Comfort Road, Fayetteville, AR 72704 on Thursday, Aug. 30, at 10 a.m.
