James Kalep Watts, 87, of Tontitown, died Friday, Aug. 17, 2012, at Veterans Health System of the Ozarks in Fayetteville. He was born Feb. 18, 1925, in the Bryan Community near Marshall, Ark., to Everett and Mary Josie O'Neal Watts. James served in the Army during WW II where he was awarded the Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal and the Bronze Star for service in campaigns in Northern France, Central Europe and the Rhineland. After returning from the war, he met and married Geneva Dewey on June 11, 1950, at her parents' home in the Butterfield Community near Scotland, Ark. They lived and raised their sons in North Little Rock. He retired from work as a nursing assistant at the V.A. Medical Center at Ft. Roots. He was a faithful husband, father and Christian influence as a member of the Assemblies of God where he participated in bus ministry, Royal Rangers and Boy Scouts. He was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters. He is survived by his wife, Geneva Watts of the home; two sons, Cecil Watts and wife, Vicky, of Searcy, Darrell Watts and wife, Sharon, of Tontitown; a sister, Pearl Hall of Cozahome, Ark.; four grandchildren, Brian Watts and wife, Nikki, Nicole Watts Alexander and husband, Chris, Emily Watts and Ellen Watts; and two great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 20, at Heritage Funeral Home in Springdale. See the online guest book at www.heritageofnwa.com. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 21, at First Assembly of God in Springdale. Interment with military honors will be at Fayetteville National Cemetery at Noon.
