Janie K. Smith, 66, of Bella Vista, Ark., passed away Aug. 13, 2012, at the Circle of Life Hospice Home in Springdale, Ark. Janie was born Oct. 20, 1945, in Wichita, Kan., the daughter of Glen and Helen Coulson. Janie worked in various divisions of the Butler County Court House in El Dorado, Kan. While living in El Dorado, she was a member of the Xi Alpha Delta Sorority and participated in the El Dorado woman's volleyball league, bowling league and tennis league, winning the city tennis tournament in 1982. After moving to Bella Vista, she worked at Wal-Mart headquarters in Bentonville, Ark. Janie was very active — her many hobbies included camping, boating, golfing, tennis, arts and crafts, and spending time with her family and friends. Janie is survived by her husband of 47 years, Bert A. Smith; three daughters, Susan Muncy and son-in-law, John Muncy, of West Memphis, Ark., Teresa Bergen, Renee Scanlon and son-in-law, John Scanlon, of El Dorado, Kan. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Derek Fowler, Haley Bergen, Connor and Sydney Scanlon of El Dorado, Kan., and Kristen and Austin Muncy of West Memphis, Ark. Other survivors include sister, Judy Lindsey; stepsister, Debbie Coulson; and stepbrother, Harold Coulson of San Antonio, Texas. In her final years she was tiny and frail; however, she always continued to give such courage and hope and reminded us of the preciousness of life. Memorial services will be Aug. 25 at 11 a.m. at the First Christian Church in El Dorado, Kan., with Pastor Stan Seymour officiating. The family requests memorials to the Circle of Life Hospice, 901 Jones Road, Springdale, AR 72762. Arrangements are being made by the Benton County Funeral Home, 306 N. 4th St., Rogers, Ark.
