Mabel Irene Featherston Douglas, 93, of Bentonville, Ark., went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2012, at Highlands Health Care in Bella Vista, Ark. She was born March 15, 1919, in Benton County (Punkin Hollow), Ark., to Samuel Eldridge Featherston and Ollie Allison Featherston. Proud to have been born and raised in Benton County, she attended elementary school and church at New Home in the Punkin Hollow community near Bentonville. She graduated from Bentonville High School and business college in Muskogee, Okla. She then became the first secretary for Carroll Electric Company. It was while working there that she met her future husband, Max Douglas. During the war, she and Max were married on May 1, 1943. Mabel was involved in community life as a 4-H club leader, an active member of the Homemakers Extension Club and the Benton County Historical Society for many years. After Max's passing she worked into her 80's as secretary for Meals on Wheels in Rogers. Mable even enrolled in a computer class at NWACC at age 80. But the love of her life was her family. She and Max raised three children, Judy, Sue and Dan, and many times entertained them with stories and adventures of life with her family and friends in Punkin Hollow. Her quick wit stayed with her to near the end. She always enjoyed working with her hands, quilting, sewing, doing fine handwork or gardening. She attended New Home Community Church and First Christian Church of Bentonville.
