William Eutis Moore of Prairie Grove, Ark., passed on to a better place on Aug. 5, 2012, at Willard Walker Hospice in Fayetteville. He was born in 1945 in Chicago, Ill., the middle son of Harry and Clarice Moore. Bill grew up on a dairy farm along with his two brothers in Searcy, Ark., finishing his senior year at Fayetteville. At both places, Bill was an outstanding sprinter and quarter-miler for the track team. He spent most of his career with the Navy serving, at first, on a Navy gunboat along the rivers of Vietnam, where he received the National Defense Service Medal and Vietnam Service Medal. He went on to become a navigator on naval aircraft serving on several aircraft carriers. He finished his naval career as a Lt. Commander of Budget Control of the Pacific Fleet in Pearl Harbor. Upon retirement to San Diego, Bill became a mortgage broker and Realtor and served on various committees in his local community. He finished his career working as a safety professional in Yosemite National Park. He held degrees in electrical engineering and business administration from the University of Texas and a master of science degree from the Naval Post Graduate School in Monterey, Calif. He had a broad range of interests in just about everything, being a voracious reader of all types of books and taking many classes at NorthWest Arkansas Community College after retirement. He enjoyed all aspects of the great outdoors, from mountaineering on Aconcagua in Argentina to running up El Capitan in Yosemite. Bill was a very likable and charming person, being able to converse with all types of people. His claim to fame in his last five years in the Fayetteville area was to perfect his mother's old-fashioned brownie recipe and distribute them among friends and church members. Bill will be greatly missed by all. Survivors include two brothers, Robin and Ruth Moore of Compton and their children, and Dennis and Ellen Moore of Prairie Grove and their children. A memorial will be 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 8, at the First Baptist Church on Rheas Mill Road in Farmington, Ark. The family requests no flowers; memorials to the charity of your choice. Arrangments by Epting Funeral Home of Fayetteville. Condolences: www.eptingfuneralhome.webs.com.
