Betty J. Olson Fischer, 84, of Rogers left this phase of life Aug. 4, 2012. Survivors are a son, Elgin Andrews Olson of Duncan, Okla.; a daughter, Elizabeth Ann Ackermann and husband, Jim, of Grove, Okla.; a son, James Nels Olson and wife, Michele, of Midland, Texas; a stepdaughter, Eva Maria Eddlemon and husband, Tom, of Peoria Heights, Ill.; and numerous other relatives. Mrs. Fischer graduated from the historic Central High School in Oklahoma City, Okla. She received both her bachelor and master's degrees in education from OU. Twice she received a prestigious grant from National Endowment for Humanities for studies. Philco-Ford awarded her community service awards twice. She was named Woman of the Year by Business of Professional Women in Guthrie, Okla., and Springdale, Ark. Several times she had the honor of having the most entries in the women's department of the Benton County Fair. Mrs. Fischer taught for 35 years beginning with a one-room school and including a women's job corps and public schools in Oklahoma and Arkansas. She also enjoyed doing volunteer work, making hats for cancer patients, having a mend it day at Benton County Senior Activity Center, lap robes for vets, neck coolers for soldiers, etc. Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at St. Theodore's Episcopal Church in Bella Vista, with the Rev. Ken Parks Officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Theodore's Episcopal Church or the charity of one's choice. Arrangements by Benton County Funeral Home, 306 N. 4th Street, Rogers.
