John Edward Grant passed away April 25 at home, surrounded by loved ones, following a 15-month battle with cancer. John was born March 27, 1955, in Toledo, Ohio. He grew up in Ohio, Wisconsin and California, but Rogers was the place he loved to call home. John was employed at Walmart for over 30 years. He began his career at Store #0001 in 1978 for 25 years, before briefly retiring. In 2005, he returned to Walmart at the Pleasant Crossing store as a popular greeter. Following his cancer diagnosis, he went to Los Angeles for treatment at the City of Hope. On Feb. 28, 2012, he was so glad to come back to his home in Rogers. John was a kind, gentle, caring man, known for his ready smile, his delightful sense of humor and his hugs, making friends wherever he went. His magic was that he met people where they were. He received several customer service awards for his kindness toward customers. He was an early member of Fellowship Bible Church in Rogers. His unwavering faith and great love of Our Lord sustained him while he fought his disease, as well as the loving support from his family of friends. He was an excellent cook, great photographer, loved road trips and travel, new cars, old Popeye cartoons, old TV shows, '60s rock music, and no one knew more about the area restaurants than John. Left to cherish his memory are his mother, Joan Miller; stepfather Donald Miller, Sr.; sisters Donna Ludlow, Barbara Grant Van Laar and Mary Grant-Young; stepsister Daryl Doherty; nephew Andrew Young and nieces Elisa Young and Julie Wahl. He is predeceased by his father, Donald Grant, and stepbrothers Donald Miller, Jr. and Daniel Miller. Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 3 from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Rollins Funeral Home, 1401 Hudson Road, Rogers, AR 72756. Funeral Service will be held on Friday, May 4 at 10 a.m. at Fellowship Bible Church, 1501 W. Pleasant Grove Road, Rogers, AR 72758. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to Circle of Life Hospice, 901 Jones Road, Springdale, AR 72762, for taking such good care of John in his final weeks.
