Norman Vernon Hoffman Jr.

Norman Vernon Hoffman Jr., 83, of Bella Vista, Ark., died Friday, April 20, 2012, at Ashley Health, Rogers, Ark. He was born on July 29, 1928, in Racine, Wis., the son of Norman Vernon Hoffman and Florence Criplean Hoffman. He was raised and educated in Illinois and following his graduation, he served in the U.S. Army as an MP during the occupation of Japan. He married Donna Burks in 1950. He graduated from NW Missouri State College, and throughout his lifetime he taught school, worked for Bankers Life Insurance, was a salesman for American Family Insurance and owned and operated the Lake Drive Motel and Apartments in Shawno, Wis. Norm was a past president of the Shawano Lions Club and a lifetime member of the American Legion. They retired to Bella Vista in 1992 coming from Shawano, Wis. He loved to bowl and belonged to several bowling groups. He also loved to golf and belonged to the Shenneman Golf Group, the Foster Golf Group and the Mulligans. He was a member of Bella Vista Community Church. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Donald; and his first wife, Donna M. Burks Hoffman. Norman is survived by his second wife, Dolores of Bella Vista; his son, N. Kurby Hoffman (Bette) of Shawano, Wis.; daughters, Jeannine Albers (Stephen) of Menominee, Mich., and Kathy Hollenback (Emmett) of Shawano, Wis.; one sister, Marilyn Kocal and her husband, Richard, of Lanark, Ill.; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He is also survived by one stepson, Bill Wyer (Roxie); and two stepdaughters, Sally Beasley (Mike) and Sara Mark (Stu). A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 28, 2012, at the Bella Vista Community Church, 75 East Lancashire Blvd., Bella Vista, Ark., with the Rev. Jeffrey Reed officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial contributions to Bella Vista Community Church or to Bella Vista Animal Shelter.
