Adolf W. Kluender, 89, of Bella Vista, Ark., died Saturday, April 21, 2012, at the Veteran's Administration Hospice Care Unit in Little Rock, Ark. He was born Jan. 11, 1923, in Ruskin, Neb., to William and Anna Kluender. He married Angelene "Ann" Kluender, Sept. 12, 1953, in Great Bend, Kan. They moved to Bella Vista from Great Bend, Kan., in 1994 after he and his wife retired. Adolf was employed by Natural Gas Pipeline Co. of America for 29 years. He was a member of United Lutheran Church and was active in their Shepherd Group. He loved to play golf, cards and board games. Adolf served as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne in World War II. He also served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. Sgt. Kluender was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army, Aug. 22, 1952. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and three sisters. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Sue Hutchins and husband, Jim Hutchins, of Phoenix, Ariz.; brother, Emil J. Kluender and his wife, Evelyn, of Yates Center, Kan.; sister, Kay Frederick of Colby, Kan.; sister-in-law, Maxine and her husband, Ray Wyatt, of Bella Vista; brother-in-law, William McCoy and his wife, Betty, of Great Bend, Kan.; and many nieces and nephews. The memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 28, at the United Lutheran Church, Bella Vista, Ark. The family will receive friends at 9:30 a.m. at the church followed by a 10 a.m. service. A special thanks to his caregivers, Brookfield Assisted Living, Michael Cook and the Little Rock VA Hospice who all helped make the last two years of his life the best it could be. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Association of Arkansas, 201 Markham Center Drive, Little Rock, AR 72205.
