Dan Buttram

W. Dan Buttram passed away peacefully on April 21, 2012 at the age of 88 at the Circle of Life Hospice, Springdale, Arkansas. He was a native of the Rogers area – born on July 4, 1923, in Avoca, Arkansas to Edward Franklin Buttram and Dixie Belle Baker Buttram. He graduated from Rogers High School in 1941. After graduation, he worked at Boeing Aircraft in Wichita, Kan. and Puget Sound Naval Yard in Bremerton, Wash. In 1945, he went to work for the U.S. Postal Service and at the time of his retirement in 1980, he had been Assistant Postmaster for ten years. Following his retirement from the U.S. Postal Service, he worked as a real estate agent for Harris McHaney Real Estate for many years. He served in the United States Army for two years at Camp Chaffee, Ft. Smith, Ark. as regimented mail clerk. He enlisted in the 936th Field Artillery Battalion, Battery "C" from Rogers which was activated Aug. 21, 1950, and entered combat March 29, 1951, 12 miles North of Seoul, S. Korea. He served as Sgt. 1st Class in the Korean conflict until 1952 or 1953. During his service in Korea, his nickname was Colonel Dan. Along with other Korean Veterans, he was awarded a medal of service in 2002. Feb. 17, 1955, he married Anita Jones at the First Christian Church in Rogers by the Rev. Bill Miller and in 1962 was born to this union, a daughter, Karen Ann. They celebrated 57 years of marriage on Feb. 17 2012. He served on the Board of Adjustments for the City of Rogers for many years, a member of the American Legion Post 100, Oakley Chapel Cemetery Board, Foothills of the Ozarks Antique Car Club and VFW. He loved antique cars and working with wood in his workshop. In 1999, he was selected a co-winner of the Charlie Banks Spirit Award by the Rogers Board of Realtors. He was a devout Christian all his life, devoted husband and loving father. He is a member of the Bella Vista Christian Church. He is survived by his wife, Anita Buttram, daughter, Karen A. Walls and husband Frank A. Walls, and brother , Wallace Buttram and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers – Maurice, Harry, Fred, Frank and one sister – Bernice and his loyal furry friend "Prissy." Services will be held, Wednesday, April 25, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. in Callison- Lough Funeral Home, Rogers. Burial will follow at Rogers Cemetery. A visitation will be Tuesday, April 24, 2012, from 4 to 6 p.m. Dan was a loyal friend to all that knew him. He was a very happy being around family and friends. He loved music of all kinds: his favorite hymn was "It is Well With My Soul."
