Freada Jorgensen Heymsfield

Freada Jorgensen Heymsfield, 88, of Springdale, died Friday, April 20, 2012, at Walnut Grove Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born May 6, 1923, in New York City, N.Y., to Lauritz and Jenny Jorgensen. She attended Creedmore State Hospital School of Nursing and received her nursing degree and later received a bachelor's degree from New York University. After graduation from Creedmoor, she joined the U.S. Army serving in the Philippine Islands during World War II as first lieutenant with Army Nurse Corps. After discharge from service, she became a public health nurse for Nassau County. On Dec. 26, 1949, she was appointed to the NYC Department of Health as a public health nurse and was assigned to the Jamaica Health Center. She retired May 20, 1978, after 28 years of service. She was preceded in death by both of her parents and sister. Survivors include her son, Ernie Heymsfield and wife, Carol, of Elkins; grandchildren, Grace and Christian Heymsfield, both of Elkins; nephew, Bob Hrabak and wife, Karen, of St. Joseph, Mo.; and many friends. A memorial service will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, April 22, 2012, at Arkanshire Retirement Community, 5000 Arkanshire Circle, Springdale, AR 72764. Private burial will be in the Fayetteville National Cemetery. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Beard's Funeral Chapel of Fayetteville.
