S. Marie Smith

S. Marie Smith, 86, of Springdale, Ark., passed away Wednesday, April 18, 2012, at her residence. She was born on Jan. 15, 1926, in Boxley, Ark., a daughter of Robert Harmon Swafford and Ethel Mae (Boen) Swafford. Marie was a homemaker. She is survived by six children, James A. Smith and wife, Nina, Wanda Thomas, Johnny A. Smith and wife, Barbara, all of Springdale, Ark., Rosalie Markley of Illinois, Phyllis Sizemore and husband, Eugene, and Guy P. Smith Jr. and wife, Carla, all of Springdale, Ark.; 20 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren; one brother, Sherman Swafford and wife, Artie, of Lowell, Ark.; one sister, Georgia Barry and husband, Robert, of Colorado; one sister-in-law, Elizabeth Swafford or Pettigrew, Ark.; along with many nieces and nephews and several close friends. Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Guy P. Smith Sr. in 1993; one brother, Dempsey Swafford; one sister, Grace Rogers; and one grandson. Funeral services will be held at the Backstrom-Pyeatte Funeral Chapel in Springdale on Saturday, April 21, 2012, at 10 a.m. Pastor Randall Galloway will officiate the service, with committal service to follow at Friendship Cemetery in Springdale.
