Velma N. King

Velma N. King, 94, formerly of Lowell, Ark., passed away Monday, April 9, 2012, at the Green Acres Lodge in Holiday Island, Ark. Velma was born on June 10, 1917, in McLennan County, Texas, a daughter of William Matthew Lee and Mary Jane Lee. She attended Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas, before marrying her husband, Sidney M. King. Velma worked for the Schofner's Office Supply and Stationary in Bentonville and Rogers, and was a Jehovah's Witness. She is survived by a grandson, Sidney King and his wife, Misty, and their daughter, Harper, all of Bella Vista, Ark.; a granddaughter, Jennifer and her husband, Rodney Duesterbeck, and their daughter, Kaylie, all of Rogers, Ark.; along with many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sidney M. King, one son, William E. "Doc" King, both of Lowell; her parents W.M. and Mary Jane Lee of Moody, Texas; two brothers, W.B. Lee of Moody, Texas, and J.C. Lee of Denver, Colo.; and one sister, Opal Coulter of Moody, Texas. Graveside services will be held at the Benton County Memorial Park on Thursday, April 12, 2012, at 10 a.m. Jason Cox will officiate the service under the direction of the Backstrom-Pyeatte Funeral Home of Springdale.
