Dave Falconer

Dave Falconer, 73, a resident of Russellville, died Saturday, June 11, 2011, at his home. He was born Dec. 11, 1937, in Parsons, Kan. to David Wilfred "W. D." and Mary Anne Rachels Falconer. He was a teacher and a coach of multiple sports at the high school and college level, who over a 48-year career, coached thousands of student athletes. His passion was coaching basketball and golf. He influenced his students with his incredible humor that was combined with an ability to turn serious and competitive at just the right time. He taught his students how to achieve their goals both on the playing field and in life. He also enjoyed camping and fishing later in his life. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Doris Rae Falconer. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, David A. Falconer Jr. and his wife, Kim, of Tampa, Fla.; a daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer A. and Richard Roberts of Russellville; five grandchildren, Katie and Ryan Roberts, both of Russellville and Lily, Maribella and Grace Falconer, all of Tampa; and a special friend, Dorothy Lawless of Russellville. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, June 14, 2011, at Shinn Chapel with the Rev. Tom Walker officiating. Entombment will be in Rest Haven Memorial Park Mausoleum under the direction of Shinn Funeral Service. Active pallbearers will be Marty Barnes, Bobby Vint, Joe Foley, Doin Dahlke, Jim Lucas and Richard Roberts. Honorary pallbearers will be Dick Newberry and Johnny Johnson. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 126 Lakeview Circle, Russellville, Ark. 72802.
