Aubrey L. "Sonny" Harris Jr.

Aubrey L. "Sonny" Harris Jr., age 84, of Forrest City, passed away Tuesday, November 23, 2010. He was born December 13, 1925, in Forrest City, Arkansas, to the late Pauline Harrell and Aubrey Lee Harris. Mr. Harris was a graduate of Forrest City High School and the University of Arkansas. While at the University he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon. He served in the Naval Air Corp during World War II. On March 26, 1949, he married Marilyn Causey. Mr. Harris worked with his father and later took over Merchants Specialty Wholesale Grocery. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Forrest City, the Cattlemen's Association, and the Hardin Point Hunting Club. He was a 32nd Degree Mason. He served twenty-nine years on the Forrest City City Council. Mr. Harris was preceded in death by his son, Ben Boren Harris. He is survived by his wife of sixty-one years, Marilyn C. Harris, sons; Aubrey L. "Al" Harris III, and wife, Nell, of Little Rock, John W. Harris, and wife, Sue, of Forrest City, Thomas Joe Harris, and wife, Becky, of Fort Worth, Texas, six grandchildren, Aubrey L. Harris IV, and wife Andrea, Gibson B. Harris, John W. 'Will' Harris Jr., and wife, Laura, Christie Marie Harris, Mary Joni Shaffer, and husband, Wayne, and Marilyn Elizabeth Patton, and husband, Patrick, and four great-grandchildren; Lily Harris, Maya Cortez, Ava Shaffer, and Audrey Patton. Mr. Harris enjoyed hunting with his sons and grandsons. He and Marilyn spent many happy weekends at East Lake and Hardin Point. In later life he became a part time cattleman working on his farm. We will remember him as a wonderful husband and devoted father and grandfather. Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, November 26, 2010, at the Stevens Funeral Home Chapel, Forrest City, Arkansas. Burial will follow in Forrest Park Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends at the home until the time of the service. Memorials are to be made to the First Baptist Church, 507 N. Rosser, Forrest City, Arkansas 72335.
