Ruth Hipwell

Ruth Hipwell, 90, of Van Buren, Ark., formerly of Bella Vista, Ark. and Correctionville, Iowa, passed away on Friday, December 24, 2010 in Van Buren. She left us to join her beloved husband, Max, and daughter, Connie, for Christmas. Ruth was born May 3, 1920 in Cherokee, Iowa. She was a homemaker, a member of P.E.O., a past worthy matron, Order of the Eastern Star, a volunteer at Helping Hands in Bentonville and a member of the Correctionville Methodist Church, and Bella Vista United Methodist Church. Ruth grew up in Sutherland, Iowa. Like many young people, after high school graduation, Ruth took a job at the Mental Hospital in Cherokee, Iowa. This is where she met her future husband, Max Hipwell. She and Max were married on January 11, 1941 in Cherokee, Iowa. Their first daughter, Connie, was born in 1942. Shortly after Connie's birth, Max entered the Navy to serve during WWII. During that time, Ruth and Connie lived with Max's parents in Essex, Iowa. After Max left the Navy, Ruth worked while Max attended and finished dental school in Iowa City, Iowa. Upon graduation, Ruth and the family moved to Correctionville, Iowa where Max had a dental practice for 33 years. In 1952, their second daughter, Patricia, was born. Ruth and Max decided to retire in 1985 and moved to Bella Vista. Max passed away in 1989 but Ruth decided to stay in Bella Vista where she resided until 2006. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Constance Hipwell; three sisters, Maxine Burkart, Mildred Beacham, Eva Mitchell; as well as three brothers, Robert Regennitter, Ronald Regennitter, and Harry Regennitter. She is survived by her daughter, Patricia (Patty) Creighton of Bella Vista, Ark.; as well as several nieces and nephews and many adoring friends. A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, December 30, 2010 at First United Methodist Church in Bella Vista, Ark. Services will also be held in Correctionville, Iowa at a later date along with the burial of her ashes at the Correctionville Cemetery.
