Officer arrested on domestic charges

A Benton police sergeant has been arrested on domestic battery charges, authorities said Friday.

An arrest warrant was served on Friday for Sgt. Jeff Parsons on charges of domestic battery third degree, aggravated assault on a family or household member (Class D felony), terroristic threatening first degree (Class D felony) and interference with emergency communication, according to a news release from the Benton Police Department.

Benton police opened an investigation after getting information about a possible domestic violence matter involving a Benton officer, according to the news release. That led to the arrest warrant. No details concerning what led up to the charges were released.

Parsons, who has 18 years of law enforcement experience, will remain on administrative leave pending the outcome of what the department described as an "ongoing criminal and internal investigation.".
