I-30 job to shut park entrance in Benton

Construction on a $187.3 million project to widen a section of Interstate 30 in Saline County will require closing the entrance to a Benton park for three days starting today, the Arkansas Department of Transportation said.

Citizens Drive on the south side of I-30, which leads to Riverside Park, will be closed from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily through Friday at its connection with the frontage road, weather permitting, to allow a storm drain to be installed across the road.

Access will be maintained to the park and adjacent neighborhoods by using either Airlane Drive or Fairfield Road, the department said. Barricades, signs and flagging operations will be used for traffic control.

The work is part the widening of a 5.5 mile-section of I-30 to six lanes from four between Sevier Street in Benton and U.S. 70. The project includes improvement at the I-30/U.S. 67 interchange.
