Resurfacing to close lanes of I-40, I-540

Resurfacing work on selected sections of Interstates 40 and 540 in Crawford and Sebastian counties will require overnight lane closings beginning today and lasting through the middle of 2020, the Arkansas Department of Transportation said.

The lane closings will occur in 2-mile sections between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. daily, weather permitting, on a 22-mile section of I-40 east from the Oklahoma border to 2 miles east of Dyer in Crawford County and on a 4-mile section of I-540 between Arkansas 22 and U.S. 71 in Sebastian County.

The lane closings will allow crews to remove and replace asphalt and prepare bridges for rehabilitation work as part of a $53.2 million project awarded to APAC-Central Inc. of Fayetteville last October, the department said. Traffic will be controlled with signs and traffic barrels.
