FAYETTEVILLE -- A hiker found a human skull Feb. 25 at Devil's Den State Park, according to the Washington County sheriff's office.

Deputies received a call from park rangers after the hiker discovered the skull, according to a Facebook post Tuesday from the sheriff's office. Investigators found human remains near a trail.

The remains were sent to the state Crime Laboratory. Identification is pending, according to the post. Investigators requested a DNA profile. The cause and manner of death hasn't been determined.

The sheriff's office is investigating a missing-person case from Aug. 27, 2017, according to the post. Rodney Letterman, 37, of Bartlesville, Okla., was last seen in the area of a hiking trail at Devil's Den.

A search was conducted, but Letterman has not been found, nor have there been any leads on his whereabouts, according to the post.
