COLLEGE SOFTBALL Ole Miss takes two-of-three from Arkansas

Ole Miss took advantage of Arkansas' mistakes in the field to claim a 6-2 win Monday, winning the SEC opening series by taking the final two games.

The Rebels built a 4-0 lead by scoring twice in the second and third innings, and that was more than enough offense for Ole Miss starter Molly Jacobsen (8-1), who allowed just four hits with six strikeouts to stymie the Arkansas bats. Brittany Finney earned the save.

Ole Miss (16-7, 2-1) put two on in the bottom of the second and both runners scored on Kaylee Horton's two-run single. The Rebels tacked on two more in the third when Kylan Becker and Abbey Latham singled and later scored, with Latham touching the dish on an Arkansas error.

No. 14 Arkansas (19-5, 1-2) scored its only runs of the game in the fourth inning when Hannah McEwen reached on an error and moved up on a wild pitch. After Katie Warrick singled and moved to second on the play, Ashley Diaz singled home McEwen and Sydney Parr added an RBI single to pull the Razorbacks within 4-2, but that's as close as they got.

Ole Miss tacked on single runs in the fourth and fifth innings to seal the series.

Autumn Storms (8-1) was tagged with her first loss of the season, allowing five hits and six runs, only three earned, in 4.1 innings with just one strikeout.

The Razorbacks will return home Wednesday to host Tulsa at 6 p.m. in Bogle Park before hosting No. 13 South Carolina this weekend for a three-game SEC series.
