All-American picnic on the lawn benefits park system

HOT SPRINGS -- An old-fashioned patriotic picnic in the heart of downtown was held at Arlington Lawn on July 4. The family friendly event -- The Red, White & You Picnic In The Park -- was a fundraiser for Friends of Hot Springs National Park.

The festivities included visits from the Hot Springs Renaissance Faire cast; superhero and movie characters; and games including sack races and a limbo contest. At noon the Hot Springs Village Color Guard presented the American flag and guests sang the national anthem led by Angie Ezekiel. Picnicgoers also enjoyed music, food and drinks.

Friends of Hot Springs National Park support the park through volunteerism, advocacy and fundraising. Money raised from the picnic will go toward the restoration of the historic areas of the Maurice Bathhouse, the last on the historic Bathhouse Row to be restored. Roxanne Butterfield serves as president of the volunteer organization.
