Waldo man lying in road a homicide

Authorities in southwest Arkansas are investigating the death of a 39-year-old man whose body was found in the middle of a rural road Sunday morning, according to a news release from the Columbia County sheriff's office.

Deputies were sent to West Dempsey Road, just outside Waldo, around 9 a.m. Sunday where they found Wallace Turner Jr. of Waldo unresponsive, Sheriff Mike Loe told the Magnolia Banner-News. Turner suffered an apparent gunshot wound, according to authorities.

Investigators said Turner had stopped at a convenience store and left on foot, according to a news release from the sheriff's office.

The state Crime Lab confirmed the death as a homicide.
