GYMNASTICS

Arkansas loses at Kentucky

The No. 14 University of Arkansas fell at No. 16 Kentucky on Friday evening 195.275-193.975 at Rupp Arena in Lexington, Ky.

The Razorbacks won the balance beam with a score of 48.225 to Kentucky's 47.775.

Kentucky won the other three events, taking the vault 49.175-48.700; uneven bars 48.925-47.900; and the floor exercise 49.375-49.050.

Sophomore Sarah Shaffer led the Razorbacks with a 9.775 on the uneven bars. Shaffer and freshman Kennedy Hambrick led Arkansas (1-2, 0-1 SEC) with 9.775 in the vault. Sophomore Sophia Carter posted a 9.900 on the floor exercise, a mark she has not finished below this season. Junior Michaela Burton and Hambrick scored 9.800 on the balance beam.

GOLF

Former Razorback in second place

Former University of Arkansas golfer Alvaro Ortiz is in second place at the Latin America Amateur Championship at Casa del Campo, Dominican Republic.

Ortiz shot a second-round 68 and has a 6-under 138 after two rounds. He trails Juan Cayro Delgado by one stroke.

Arkansas freshman Julian Perico shot a 7-under 65 to move into eighth place. He has at 2-under 142 after two rounds.

Luis Garza of Arkansas shot a 3-over 75 and missed the cut with a 155.

The tournament resumes today. The winner receives an invitation to the 2019 Masters and will be exempt into the final stages of qualifying for the U.S. Open and British Open.

TRACK AND FIELD

Red Wolves set four records in Alabama

Arkansas State University's men's and women's team set four meet records and won eight events at the Samford Invite in Birmingham, Ala.

For the women, Caitland Smith set two records when she won the 60-meter dash in 7.46 seconds, breaking the previous meet record of 7.57 seconds. She also set a record in the 200 in 24.25 seconds, breaking the old mark of 24.93 seconds.

In the men's meet, Michael Carr set a record in the pole vault at 17 feet, 5½ inches. Carter Shell set a meet record in the long jump by clearing 24-3.

Other winners for the men included Heinrich Herbst in the 800 in 1:54.98, and Tiaan Steenkamp in the high jump at 6-6¾.

Other women's winners included Madison Grimm in the 3,000 in 10:41.35, and Sydney Lane in the high jump at 5-6½.

BOWLING

Red Wolves in third place

Arkansas State University is in third place after the first day of the Kutztown Invitational in Reading, Pa.

The Red Wolves had a total pinfall of 5,158 in Baker format, averaging 206.3 per game with a 4-1 record.

The Red Wolves defeated Morgan State 972-871, Mount St. Mary's 1,115-834 and Adelphi 1,021-999. They then lost 1,058-1,006 to Delaware State before rebounding to beat Monmouth 1,044-961.

Fairleigh Dickinson is in first place with a total pinfall of 5,196 across five Baker format matches, while Stephen F. Austin is in second with a total pinfall of 5,180.

The tournament will continue today with traditional team matches.

WOMEN'S TENNIS

Arkansas sweeps Kennesaw State

The University of Arkansas swept Kennesaw State 4-0 and 4-1 on Friday in Kennesaw, Ga.

The first match consisted of singles competition after excessive rain from the previous night. Winners from Arkansas were No. 2 Martina Zerulo, No. 4 Laura Rijkers, No. 6 Shwetha Prabakar and No.1 Tatum Rice whose victory sealed the match.

The Razorbacks went 3-1 in singles in the second match. Rice won at No. 1, Zerulo won at No. 2, while Lauren Alter won at No. 3. Kennesaw's Zoe Wende defeated Prabakar for the hosts only victory.

Arkansas' No. 3 doubles team of Rice and Miruna Tudor defeated Brenna Reilly and Lara Mehlsam 6-1 and the No. 2 team of Alter and Rijkers defeated Kendall Nash and Aspen Jarrett to win the doubles point.
