Gird for the bird in coffee

Once again, we chew on the latest freaky food news.

FOR THE PEEP-LE

International Delight, which has novelty flavors such as Cinnabon, Almond Joy and Reese's Peanut Butter Cup in its lineup, is adding a new coffee creamer.

Peeps. And while it's not Easter yet, it's already Peeping up on grocery shelves.

Says the description on InternationalDelight.com: "Now hatching! New PEEPS® Brand creamer. It's sweet, marshmallow-y and yellow. Yep, yellow. Because it's PEEPS® and we can."

Apparently, there's nothing like a cup of food coloring, sugar and caffeine to make one feel chirpy in the morning.

HOW EGGS-TRAVAGANT

And speaking of coffee, Martha Stewart recently showed off a fussy way to prepare scrambled eggs -- via a fancy cappuccino machine.

In a Food Network Facebook video, Stewart cooks the scrambled eggs -- with butter, salt and pepper -- via the machine's milk frother, saying, "These eggs are buttery and fluffy, and light and delicious."

The latter might not pertain to your next Cafe Breve. Don't clean the machine thoroughly, and it's going to be -- gag -- a Caffe Eggy.

This egg tip confirms Stewart has officially cracked up.

M&MS THAI-S ONE ON

M&Ms is introducing new flavors of its candy-coated chocolates. And we're not sure that these M&Ms will have everyone saying "Mmm."

Three internationally inspired flavors are being tested, and the one with the most votes will remain on shelves the longest. They are: Mexican Jalapeno Peanut, Thai Coconut Peanut and English Toffee Peanut.

Say this about M&Ms: They've definitely gone nutty.

Er, legume-y.

THE CHEESE STANDS

A (PROVO)LONE

Apparently there is such thing as having too much cheese. And we do.

NPR recently reported "While Americans consumed nearly 37 pounds per capita in 2017, it was not enough to reduce the country's 1.4 billion-pound cheese surplus, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture." An overproduction of milk has led to an oversupply of cheese -- this as Americans are turning away from processed cheeses and craving artisan and imported cheeses.

It seems things in the dairy world aren't grate.

WORTH THEIR SALT?

And speaking of processed cheese, there's a new variety of Doritos heating things up.

Flamin' Hot Doritos -- the corn chip brand's answer to Flamin' Hot Cheetos -- have arrived.

Spicy Doritos! Now there's something we don't have enough of. There's only Doritos Blaze ... and Doritos Flamas ... and Poppin' Jalapeno ... and Spicy Sweet Chili ... and Spicy Nacho ... and Jacked Ranch Dipped Hot Wings ... and Tapatio (hot sauce) ... and Salsa Verde. ...

We predict Flamin' Hot Doritos will be just another chip off the old block.

MOREO OREOS

It's not a freaky food news roundup without an Oreos report.

In addition to the limited-time-only Carrot Cake Oreos complete with cream-cheese-frosting-flavored creme and the new permanent Dark Chocolate Oreos, Nabisco is releasing yet another new flavor of the sandwich cookies in early 2019.

"Love, Oreo."

The limited-edition Valentine cookies with pink "sweet and tangy" filling have conversation-heart-like sayings, such "LET'S TWIST" and "DUNK IN LOVE."

All we can say to the idea of Love, Oreos is: "BE MINE."

NO MO' AVOS

This headline from FoodAndWine.com caught our attention: "An Avocado Shortage Could Cause Guacamole Issues on Super Bowl Sunday."

Long story short: There's a fuel shortage. "As a result, workers in Michoacan, Mexico's top avocado producing state, could struggle to harvest the estimated 120,000 tons of fruit growers were hoping to ship to the U.S. in time for the big game."

That would be the pits.

Still, this reminds us of the so-called Velveeta shortage of January 2014, which was much hyped but never happened.

So we're taking this news with a grain of salt ... and a squeeze of lime and a sprinkle of cilantro.

Guac on and email:
