Mercy cardiologist arrested and suspended

BENTONVILLE -- A Rogers cardiologist has been suspended indefinitely from Mercy Hospital after his arrest earlier this week.

Keith Foster, a spokesman for the Rogers Police Department, confirmed that Robert Joseph Stuppy, 60, was arrested Tuesday in connection with an arrest warrant out of Missouri.

"Mercy administrators have been made aware of serious criminal charges alleged against Dr. Robert Stuppy," said Jennifer Cook, a senior media relations and communications specialist. "Based on the charges brought against him, the decision was made to suspend Dr. Stuppy indefinitely. He has been relieved of all clinical and administrative duties pending an internal review of this matter."

Benton County Jail documents show the arrest warrant was for manufacture of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance, and unlawful use of a weapon.

The warrant was from the McDonald County Sheriff's Office, but officials did not return a phone message Wednesday.
