BC Dems

Benton County Dems meet Sept. 24 at the Golden Corral, 2506 W. Pleasant Crossing Drive in Rogers. Lunch begins at 11 a.m., and the program is at noon. Guest speakers are Benton County Justice of Peace candidates, Parker Zielinski, District 5; Brie Madden, District 6; Matthew Kezhaya, District 7; Sam Slaton, District 8; Susie Kuilan, District 11; and Asele Mack, District 15.

Naturalists

Ellen Turner will be leading a tour of Searles Prairie at 9 a.m. Sept. 24. The park is located at the corner of Dixieland Road and U.S 62 in northern Rogers. Since participants will be walking through tall grass in places, long pants and sturdy shoes are a must. Bring a water bottle and bug spray. This event is open to both members and nonmembers of Northwest Arkansas Master Naturalists.

Turner is a popular speaker who is considered to be an expert on this 10-acre tall grass property protected by the Arkansas Natural Heritage Commission. It is one of the last remaining vestiges of Northwest Arkansas native geography.

Garden Club

The Bentonville Garden Club will meet Sept. 25 at the Circle of Life in Bentonville. Refreshments will be served at 12:30 p.m. with the meeting beginning at 1 p.m.

Civil War

The Northwest Arkansas Civil War Roundtable will meet at 7 p.m. Sept. 27 in the General Store building at the Shiloh Museum of Ozark History in Springdale. The program will be presented by Wayne Fuller, who will speak about efforts to identify and mark Civil War sites in Elm Springs. The meeting is open to anyone with an interest in the history of the Civil War.

Myeloma

Hope Cancer Resources offers a new support group for myeloma patients, caregivers and loved ones. The Northwest Arkansas Myeloma Support Group will be co-facilitated by a 22-year survivor and will provide education, support and the opportunity to share personal experiences. The group meets from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 2 at Hope Cancer Resources, 5835 W. Sunset Ave. in Springdale.

Cancer

Hope Cancer Resources offers a support group for patients who have completed treatment for any type of cancer. Empower Your Recovery is a five-week program that provides support and education for living beyond cancer, after treatment ends. The group will meet from 2:30 to 4 p.m. every Friday, Oct. 12 until Nov. 9, at Hope Cancer Resources, 5835 W. Sunset Ave. in Springdale. Members must RSVP by Sept. 28.

Red Hats

The Red Hat Society is a play group for women created 20 years ago to connect like-minded women, make new friends and enrich lives through the power of fun and friendship.

Flickering Flames is a Northwest Arkansas-based group that meets the second Wednesday of each month at an area restaurant. Women ages 50 and older are invited to join. Yes, they do wear red hats and purple clothing to their lunches, because it's fun. The group is all about fun. There are no dues.
