Continuing work on an $87.4 million project to widen a section of Interstate 630 in west Little Rock will require another round of restricting traffic to one lane in each direction during overnight hours beginning Sunday, the Arkansas Department of Transportation said.
Traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction between Baptist Health Medical Center and South University Avenue with the center and outside lanes eastbound and westbound to be closed, weather permitting.
The lane restrictions will resume at 6 p.m. Sunday and continue until 6 a.m. Monday. Starting Monday, the lane closings will last from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. nightly through Thursday. The lane closings also will take place from 8 p.m. Friday until midnight Sept. 29.
In addition, a traffic shift will move traffic from the outside lanes to the inside lanes beginning Thursday night and take three to four nights to complete, the department said.
The project will result in widening 2.5 miles of I-630 to eight lanes from six between the hospital and University Avenue. It also includes replacing the Hughes Street overpass and interstate bridges at North Rodney Parham Road and Rock Creek. The department expects the project to be substantially complete in February 2020 and fully complete two months later.
