Fans have key role

in future of Hogs

Come on, Razorback football fans! Let’s support our Hogs and our new coaches, who are in a real tough spot right now. Let’s not get down on our players or our coaches when they need us the most.

We as fans can help bring the team’s spirits up by encouraging them and looking to the future. It is our responsibility as fans to be positive. When you go to the games, support them as if they are the No. 1 team. Have faith in our team and our new coaches.

Arkansas fans stand out; let’s not forget how proud we are.

State Legislature needs

a good housecleaning

Arkansas voters have a job to do when they go to the polls in November. Clean house!

With Sen. Jeremy Hutchinson being the latest elected official to be criminally charged, voters should be up in arms by now. This is the seventh lawmaker in the Capitol accused or found to be violating state or federal laws.

Each time a legislator is found to be guilty of breaking the law, all the other members say “Well, some housekeeping is in order,” then do little or nothing about it. Sure, they set up an ethics committee and “more conflict of interest requirements” to police themselves, but the status quo still exists: They think they are above the law. Note that most of the senators or representatives who have been indicted or criminally charged are Republicans. Does that mean Democrats are free of blame? No. Have they introduced any tougher rules of transparency that would apply to all members? Not that I know of. In fact, the Legislature wants to protect its power.

There are two amendments to the Arkansas Constitution on the ballot this November. In one, the Legislature hopes to take away from the Supreme Court the decision-making powers it now has on civil lawsuits and give it to themselves. With the conduct they have shown so far, they don’t deserve more power.

The other is an amendment that would make Arkansas voters present a valid photographic ID when voting. Now this seems like an innocent enough requirement. Yet, there are many Arkansans who don’t drive and are still eligible to vote. So, they would have to get a photographic ID card, which would be “free,” according to the amendment. All they need to do is take off work and get to the nearest revenue office and wait in line for a few hours to get their state-issued photographic ID card. If they don’t have a license, they would have to catch a bus or call a taxi to get there and to get back home. Not a problem!

It’s obvious that the legislative majority wants to disenfranchise the elderly, the poor and Hispanics with this amendment. So, good people of Arkansas, it’s time to get rid of as many of the legislators as we can by going to the polls in November and voting out the incumbents who have done nothing but protect their own interests.

Is more work going on

at Razorback Stadium?

I heard Razorbacks are rebuilding.

Does that mean they are adding several levels to the northeast corner of the stadium?
