Harrison college, Tech to partner on degrees

Arkansas Tech University and North Arkansas College have agreed to work together to help students at the community college seek bachelor's degrees through the Russellville-based university.

As part of the agreement reached earlier this week, Arkansas Tech will offer classes at North Arkansas College in Harrison "as an additional pathway to baccalaureate degree attainment," the university said in a news release.

Also, North Arkansas College students transferring to Arkansas Tech will get full transfer credit for previously earned hours in their major field of study if they have completed courses identified in specific programs of study, completed required transfer procedures and been admitted to Tech.

The memorandum of understanding includes bachelor of arts degrees in communication with speech and theater options, criminal justice and criminology, cultural and geospatial studies, English, fine arts, history, journalism, political science, psychology, public history and sociology.

Also included is a bachelor of fine arts degree in creative writing and a bachelor of science degree in agriculture business with options in animal science and pre-veterinary medicine. Other bachelor of science degrees covered are biology, chemistry with a biochemistry option, elementary education, environmental science, geology, math and physics.

"This [memorandum of understanding] is about creating more access to higher education for the people of Arkansas," Arkansas Tech President Robin Bowen said in the news release.
