Fort Smith body ID'd as suspect's mother

FORT SMITH -- A decomposing body found under a pile of debris in an apartment earlier this month has been identified as the mother of a suspect in a burglary in which an elderly couple was found dead.

The state Crime Laboratory in Little Rock notified the Fort Smith Police Department the body, which was found following a fire in the apartment at 8201 Arkansas 271, was that of 43-year-old Angela Shores, according to a news release from police.

The cause of Shores' death remains under investigation and no charges have been filed in her death, the release said.

Fort Smith police had been searching for Shores since Sept. 5, when they tried to contact her in connection with the arrest of her 19-year-old son Lewis Shores in connection with the double homicide of Jimmy Grubb, 81, and his wife, Norma, 79, on Sept. 4 at their south Fort Smith home.

Lewis Shores was developed as a suspect in the Grubbs' deaths and arrested in Booneville on Sept. 5. He is charged in Sebastian County Circuit Court with aggravated residential burglary of the Grubbs' home and theft of more than $5,000.

Lewis Shores has not been charged with the Grubbs' deaths.
