Arkansas DEA operation results in more than 1,000 arrests, seizure of guns, drugs, vehicles

A Drug Enforcement Administration initiative called Operation Task Force Arkansas led to 1,260 arrests, the seizure of more than 200 guns and various amounts of marijuana, cocaine and other illicit drugs, the agency announced Friday afternoon.

In a news release, the agency called the statewide operation, which took place over several days, "unprecedented."

In total, authorities seized more than 80 pounds of methamphetamine, nearly 1,300 pounds of marijuana, more than 100 pounds of cocaine, about 2 pounds of heroin and 228,913 prescription pills, the U.S. Department of Justice news release states. In addition to the drugs, authorities obtained 211 guns, $357,399 and 32 vehicles, the release says.

"With this operation, federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies have severely disrupted multiple drug trafficking organizations operating in Arkansas," DEA Assistant Special Agent in Charge Justin King said in the release. "These enforcement actions will have an immediate impact on the drug trafficking organizations' ability to conduct business as usual."

Little Rock's DEA office and Arkansas' 19 drug task forces led the operation, which involved more than 200 officers and personnel, according to the release.
