BENTONVILLE -- Benton County planners on Wednesday approved plans to add 3-million gallons of storage to the Centerton water system
The Planning Board approved a new water tank for Centerton. The 3-million-gallon tank would be built at 11681 and 11557 W. Arkansas 72, outside the city, on 3.7 acres near two other water storage tanks -- a 1.75 million gallon tank for the city and a 3.5 million gallon tank for the Benton/Washington Regional Public Water Authority.
According to Frank Holzkamper with Centerton Water Utilities the city has about 2.1 million gallons of storage and its daily water use regularly tops 2.5 million gallons. He said the state Health Department recommends having a storage capacity equal to at least one day's use in the event of an emergency that interrupts water supply. The new water tank is estimated to cost $4.8 million. Holzkamper said the utility hopes to break ground on the project by the end of this year.
The plan calls for planting shrubs and bushes to screen adjacent residential and agricultural uses on properties to the north, east and south.
The Planning Board also approved plans for an addition to Camp Acacia, a nonprofit camp facility for special needs children, on 34 acres at 9345 WPA Road between Decatur and Gentry. The facility was formerly known as Camp Joshua.
The plans call for the addition of a 384-square-foot building to house an Americans with Disabilities Act compliant restroom and utilities associated with a swimming pool under construction. The board also considered sidewalks recently built on the site leading from the main site to Coon Creek, which runs through the property, along with a climbing wall and patios. The scale of the additions and renovation to the facilities required review and approval by the county.
The facility would have as many as 25 employees and up to 100 children present at one time, according to information provided to the county. The county required the plan to show 23 parking spaces, including one for a van to comply with the Americans With Disabilities Act.
