Two arrests follow fatal Bono gunfire

A Jonesboro man charged with murder in a Sunday night shooting in Bono told police he accidentally killed the victim while playing with what he thought was an empty gun.

Craighead County District Judge David Boling said Ethan Thomas, 19, of Jonesboro has been charged with second-degree murder and possession of defaced firearm.

Miles Lozano, 19, of Bono also was arrested and charged with possession of a defaced firearm, tampering with evidence and theft by receiving.

Patrick Kidd, 23, of Jonesboro was killed in the shooting, according to Craighead County sheriff's office Capt. Justin Rolland.

The incident occurred at Lozano's residence on Craighead County Road 361 in the Bono area. Deputies said when they arrived at the home they were informed that Kidd had been shot in the head, the affidavit said. He was taken to a hospital where he was later pronounced dead, according to a probable-cause affidavit.

Both suspects said the group had been smoking marijuana when Thomas started playing with a handgun, the affidavit said.

Thomas said in the affidavit that he thought the gun was empty and decided to "play around," He said he racked the slide and pointed the gun at Kidd. Thomas told police that Kidd told him "don't do it," but he pulled the trigger.

Lozano said Kidd had told Thomas he didn't have the b**** to do it, according to the affidavit.

Deputies said the 9mm pistol used in the shooting had the serial numbers removed.

Thomas was being held Tuesday in the Craighead County jail in lieu of $50,000 bond. Lozano was being held in lieu of $25,000 bond.
