Rogers man held on $250,000 cash bond

BENTONVILLE -- Circuit Judge Brad Karren ordered a $250,000 cash bond be set for a Rogers man who fled on the day he was expected to plead guilty in an armed robbery case.

Rocky Ali Beamon, 20, appeared in court Wednesday morning for his bond hearing after his arrest in connection with failure to appear.

He was scheduled to appear in court Aug. 29 and plead guilty to two counts of aggravated assault under a plea agreement. He had even signed paperwork agreeing to the plea deal.

Beamon, who was free on $100,000 bond, was a no-show for the hearing and Karren ordered the arrest warrant for failure to appear. He was arrested last week in Illinois and brought back to Benton County.

"I think he's impulsive and formulates his decision on the fly," Tyler Hawkins, deputy prosecutor, said about Beamon at Wednesday's bond hearing. "That's why we are here today."

Hawkins requested that the judge set a bond that was going to keep Beamon in the Benton County Jail.

Beamon told the judge that he's lived in the area for five years and he was not going to disagree with Hawkins' description of him.

"I'm very impulsive and I freaked out," Beamon said about the plea agreement and prison.

Beamon is scheduled to appear in court again at 8:30 a.m. Oct. 22.

Beamon was arrested in connection with the armed robbery of two people on July 5, 2017. He's accused of pointing a gun at their heads and demanding money, according to a probable cause affidavit. He took $260 from one person, but did not get any money from the other person, according to the affidavit.
