Legislators' expense rates to hold steady

State lawmakers' per diem and mileage reimbursement rates should remain the same next year, the Independent Citizens Commission recommended on Tuesday.

Legislators who live within 50 miles of Little Rock will continue to receive a $59 per diem on days they attend legislative meetings; those who live outside a 50-mile radius will receive $155 per day.

The mileage reimbursement rate will continue to mirror the federal rate of $0.545 per mile.

The Independent Citizens Commission -- created by Amendment 94 to the Arkansas Constitution in 2014 to determine the salaries for state elected officials -- voted earlier this year to give 3 percent raises to all 135 state legislators, 28 prosecutors, 193 judges and seven constitutional officers.
