Nashville names new police chief

Amy Marion has been appointed Nashville police chief in south Arkansas, effective Jan. 1.

The town's current police chief, Dale Pierce, retires effective Jan. 1 and Marion assumes her new role the same day.

Marion is the town's assistant police chief.

Nashville, which has a population of about 4,500 people, is in Howard County.

Marion, 44, has 23 years' experience in law enforcement. She has worked as a criminal investigator, patrol officer and jail administrator.

The City Council was deadlocked, 6-6, on her appointment. Mayor Billy Ray Jones broke the tie Oct. 22 to approve Marion.
