LR Parkview rides strong first half, beats White Hall

Little Rock Parkview jumped out to a 24-0 halftime lead, then held off White Hall for a 38-26 victory over the Bulldogs on Friday night at War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock.

The Patriots (4-5, 4-2 5A-Central) got 128 yards on 16 carries, a rushing touchdown and a passing touchdown from running back Geary Allmon to move into a tie for third in conference play with White Hall (5-3, 4-2). Pulaski Academy (8-1, 6-0) and Little Rock Christian (8-1, 5-1) lead the 5A-Central.

"We had a great first half, but they are a good football team, and in the second half, we kind of floated around," Parkview Coach Brad Bolding said. "Our guys stepped up at the end, but that third quarter was a booger bear."

Bolding said the Patriots concentrated during the week on slowing down White Hall running back Donte Buckner. Buckner came into the game with 1,181 yards (147.6 yards a game) and 11 touchdowns, but he was held to 109 yards on 29 carries Friday.

Neither team could move the ball on its first possession, but the Patriots took advantage of runs for 16 and 18 yards by Johnathan Campos on their second possession to score on a 3-yard keeper by quarterback Landon Rogers for a 7-0 lead with 4:54 left in the first quarter.

A 20-yard field goal by Giovanny Revuelta allowed the Patriots to take a 10-0 lead into the second quarter.

On the first play of the second quarter, Allmon scored on a 37-yard run. Allmon completed the scoring in the first half with an 8-yard touchdown pass to Erin Outley.

On White Hall's second play of the second half, a second and 9 at its own 39, quarterback Josh Looney hit wide receiver Koby Drake in stride for a 61-yard scoring play. A two-point attempt failed.

After forcing a Parkview punt, the Bulldogs kept with the passing game and -- with the help of a 15-yard roughing the passer penalty -- scored again on a pass to Drake, this time for 11 yards. The two-point conversion but the the Parkview lead was down to 24-12.

Thanks to a 50-yard kickoff return by Campos, the Patriots got a 3-yard touchdown from Thomas McCauley to increase the lead to 31-12 after three quarters.

On the first play of the fourth quarter, Looney hit Baylor Owen for 34 yards and another touchdown. After a successful onside kick, White Hall moved the ball down the field, scoring on a pass from Looney to Tre'don Marks, as the Bulldogs closed the gap to 31-26.

On a fourth and 2 from White Hall's 11, a Looney pass to Owen was ruled incomplete.

Rogers again ran a sneak to score, setting the final margin.
