Slain robber's girlfriend now faces felony charge in holdup at Arkansas vape shop

A Mississippi County woman whose boyfriend was shot and killed in September while robbing a vape shop in Brookland was charged Monday with a felony in the fatal incident.

Kory Taylor Kampmeyer, 25, of Bassett was charged with aggravated robbery, according to court documents.

Kampmeyer is accused of acting as the lookout in the armed robbery of Emerald's Triangle LLC, a vape shop in the Craighead County community of Goobertown.

According to a probable cause affidavit, detective Charles Garr of the Craighead County sheriff's office was called to the vape shop Sept. 20 and was told that Billy Raines, 25, had been killed by a worker at the store and that Kampmeyer was in custody. Police said they also found a black handgun in the passenger seat of the suspects' vehicle.

Garr interviewed Kampmeyer on Sept. 21. Kampmeyer told Garr that she knew that Raines, her boyfriend, was planning to rob the vape shop because they were broke and needed money, according to the affidavit.

The couple discussed robbing multiple businesses in northeast Arkansas when Kampmeyer mentioned the vape shop because she wanted to check it out.

"Billy said that they might as well rob the place and get it over with," the affidavit said.

Raines instructed Kampmeyer to park several spots down from the entrance and told her to check inside to see how many employees and customers were there, according to the affidavit. She told Raines only one employee was working, that affidavit said.

"She said Billy told her to stay there and he went in by himself," Garr wrote in his affidavit. "She said a few minutes later Billy came running out of the store with something in his hands. She said that was when she realized he was shot."

Police said Raines was shot and killed by a worker at the store.

Garr said he asked Kampmeyer if she was the lookout, and she replied, "I guess."

Kampmeyer remained in custody Tuesday in lieu of $150,000 bond, according to the Craighead County jail website.
