It's not about Trump

Trump has "achieved" many things since he became president (most I do not endorse). But getting political prisoners released is something I definitely approve of. If only he would not ruin these by making these homecomings mostly about himself.

He has certainly achieved in making at least one crass remark at each event. Who can forget (perhaps his base) him saying Kim Jong Un was "excellent" to the three returned prisoners, and his latest making a statement about who the pastor's family voted for? I wonder if Erdogan was miffed that Trump did not say he was excellent to Pastor Brunson.

Possum Poot drivel

Finally some rain came and washed away all the Cheeto dust (gold dust?). As promised, our glorious leader held a rally in our fair village, just not what we expected. He stated that there was no landing place for Air Force One plus there was no convenient golf course. The whole town gathered in the triple-wide town hall to watch a video rally. A great time was had by all; the greatest time ever. After all was said and done and all had filed out, he requested the town leaders to stay; we did. He thanked us for such a wonderful turnout that he estimated to be 5,000 (village only has 31 total), and was most gracious with his praise for our work here. Twice he tried quoting "Two Corinthians," but to little avail. I stayed behind for last instructions.

He said, "Say what you want, loudly and with conviction. Say it loudly and often. Doesn't matter whether it's correct or not, just loud, often and always mention fake news and Hillary."

A short time later I was nursing a drink at the local watering hole, amazed that I was given such a teaching. Now I will teach that the sky is green and the grass is blue with all my heart.

I slipped a bit in concentration and called headquarters to inquire about that beautiful eastern European lady, Anna Falacksis; she really did take my breath away. I was told that they knew of no one by that name or description. Most unsettling!

Come get righteous with us in Possum Poot. Next week we have our annual town contest called "Drivel Pursuit."

On a troubled planet

Humankind evolved on a planet wobbling in orbit and oscillating between Ice Ages. Climate stabilized, humankind discovered agriculture, and by around 1800 the population reached one billion. It discovered the sun's energy entrapped in coal and oil. Commerce and industry covered the globe, wealth concentrated, market ideology commodified the earth and its creatures, the planet was subdivided into private properties, and the population exploded to seven billion within two centuries.

Today an exploited planet deteriorates and wobbles toward extinction. Were we wrong to think humankind is gifted with reason and conscience?

A fight at ballot box

I think the so-called "blue wave" midterm election is a hoax created by Republican political strategists to instill a false sense of security in liberal voters. The tone-deaf mainstream media parrot the Republican talking points, lending them credibility and weight.

Every Trumped-up tweet, false accusation and outlandish lie is repeated in the press and perpetuated by a horde of cable "news" pundits. The lies reverberate and echo into perceived half-truths. It's all Trump, all the time, and he loves it.

Never in our history have we witnessed a president who is in full campaign mode 24/7. He is a master marketer and campaigner who has nationalized the midterm elections into a referendum on himself and his ruinous presidency.

There doesn't seem to be a real national Democratic party to oppose him. Where are our leaders? Who are our leaders? The last person to stand up to Mitch McConnell was John McCain.

Trump has wrapped himself in the American flag and weaponized our national anthem. He is making a fortune for himself and his family off this gig and he isn't going to give it up without a fight.

A vote for French Hill is a vote for Donald Trump. Every registered Democrat who doesn't vote in 2018 is voting for Donald Trump in 2020. It is time for us to take the gloves off and fight back at the ballot box.

Some changes good

Blissful enjoyment passed through my mind as I listened to the editorial and Voices pages being read to me. As a result of the free iPad which Mr. Hussman provided me with, I now can rest my eyes and enjoy all of the information that I have previously read for myself. No sleepy feeling from tired eyes as a result of reading the editorial and Voices pages.

This is a pleasant experience which I had not anticipated when learning of the passing of the printed paper. There is always more to be learned and more to be experienced as a result of changes in life. Quite often charges are not welcome because we fear that there will be events that create additional problems.

Thank you, Mr. Hussman, for providing me with the free iPad, for the opportunity to learn something new, and to enjoy your newspaper even more than I had in past years.
