Inmate in Arkansas' Tucker prison dead after being found unresponsive in cell, agency says

A state inmate was pronounced dead at Arkansas’ Tucker unit over the weekend, according to a release by Department of Correction.

Staff at the Maximum Security Unit in Tucker found David Mulkey, 49, unresponsive in his cell just before 3 p.m. Sunday, Solomon Graves, a spokesman for the Department of Correction, said. Graves said Mulkey was taken to the unit infirmary, where he was pronounced dead.

The Arkansas State Police and the Department of Correction will conduct investigations into the death, Graves said.

Mulkey, who was serving a life sentence from Pulaski County for first-degree murder, was the second inmate at the Tucker unit to die in a week. William Turner was found dead in his barracks the previous Sunday, according to the Department of Correction.
