Woman found dead in North Little Rock yard after home invasion report, police say

North Little Rock police found a dead woman in the backyard of a home after responding to a report of an attempted home invasion, authorities said late Friday.

The homeowner at 2223 W. Short 17th St. called 911 about 5:30 p.m. Friday and told the dispatcher that someone was trying to break into his home, North Little Rock police officer Carmen Helton said.

Later in the phone call, Helton said, the homeowner told the dispatcher a "shot had been fired," though he did not specify who had fired it.

When officers arrived, Helton said, they found the woman dead in the man's yard. Whether the woman had died from a gunshot wound was not immediately revealed.

Helton said the homeowner was at the police station being interviewed by detectives Friday night.
