Goblins keep feeding Huskey in 31-0 victory over Airedales

ALMA -- Harrison has a simple formula for success: Feed the ball to Huskey.

"We've got to get him the football when we can," Goblins Coach Joel Wells said.

It's a game plan that has been hugely successful as Gabe Huskey led the Goblins to a 31-0 victory Friday in Airedale Stadium.

Harrison rode the running back to its first win at Alma since 2007. Huskey rushed for 269 yards and two touchdowns.

Huskey averaged 8.5 yards per carry in the first half. He rushed for three consecutive first downs on a first-quarter drive that ended with Maxwell Payne's 32-yard field goal.

"You give him enough touches, he's really hard to slow down," Wells said. "He makes everything else work."

Huskey opened up the scoring early for the Goblins (8-0, 5-0 5A-West), returning the opening kickoff 43 yards before running 44 yards on the first play from scrimmage. The junior added a 43-yard touchdown run on the Goblins' first play of the second half.

He needed two carries in the third quarter to eclipse the 200-yard mark, reaching the milestone on a 12-yard run that set up Ben Johnson's touchdown run on the ensuing play.

Quarterback Ben Johnson, who had 167 yards total offense, ran for two touchdowns in the second half.

"We kind of cut him loose, and he showed us what he can do running the football," Wells said. "I'm real proud of him."

Alma (4-4, 4-1) was held to 24 yards in the first half but moved the ball in the second half before turnovers, including interceptions by Bryant Ulrich and Colton Shaver, thwarted scoring opportunities..

"We've got speed on defense," Wells said.
