BENTONVILLE -- A candidate for Benton County justice of the peace was being held today in the Benton County Jail after his arrest in connection with forgery.

Parker Henry Zielinski, 38, of Rogers was booked at 5:17 p.m. Tuesday into the jail. His bond is set at $4,500.

Prosecutors have not filed a formal charge against Zielinski.

Zielinski is running as a Democrat for Benton County Justice of the Peace District 5. His opponent is Carrie Smith, a Republican.

A Rogers police officer arrested Zielinski after a traffic stop, according to court documents. The officer discovered the car's license plate was reportedly linked to a shoplifting case.

Zielinski gave police permission to search his vehicle, and the officer found 19 counterfeit $100 bills in a bag in the car's glove compartment, according to court documents. Zielinski told police that the money was purchased online for his son as a game, according to the affidavit.

Zielinski's arraignment is scheduled for 8 a.m. Nov. 26 in Benton County Circuit Judge Brad Karren's courtroom.
