Springdale officers home, two more arrested in hit and run

SPRINGDALE -- Two police officers injured Friday morning have been released from the hospital, according to a Springdale Police Department news release.

Teen suspects fleeing in a stolen car hit the officers with the vehicle.

Officers arrested two more teens in the case, according to the release. A 15-year-old and a 14-year-old were arrested on the same charges as the other suspects: two counts of battery, theft of property and flight.

Police arrested Arommon Luther, 18, of 1759 B Emily Circle, two 15-year-old males and a 17-year-old male Friday. Luther also was arrested on a charge of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. The Police Department is asking the Washington County prosecutor to charge the 15-year-old driver as an adult.

The investigation is ongoing, and police expect to make more arrests, according to the release.

Springdale police received a call at 3:20 a.m. Friday about suspicious people in the area of 707 Woodridge Drive. The caller said he was on his way home from work and could see two people on the security camera outside his house, according to a Friday news release.

Officers found several people in a stolen Nissan Altima with the headlights off. Officer Ashley Booth approached the car, and it fled at a high rate of speed, striking Booth and Officer Annelisa Hoffman as it sped away, according the news release.

Booth has been with the department 12 years, and Hoffman has been with the department 3½ years, said Derek Hudson with the Police Department. Both will require recovery time and medical follow-up visits. A timeline for their return to full duty hasn't bee determined, according to Monday's release

The car eventually hit the resident who initially called police head-on in his vehicle. All occupants of the stolen car fled on foot. A search ensued, involving a police dog.

The resident suffered minor injuries but didn't go to the hospital, according t0 the release.

Hudson said Luther admitted to being in the stolen car, hitting the officers and leaving the scene of an accident.
