MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY

Arkansas State finishes second

Arkansas State University finished runner-up to Allen (Kan.) Community College at the Little Rock Invitational at Rebsamen Golf Course on Saturday.

The Red Wolves finished with 63 points, while Allen had 51. West Florida scored 95 points to finish ahead of the University of Central Arkansas (124) and Christian Brothers (140) to round out the top five. The University of Arkansas at Little Rock and Harding University finished tied for sixth with 153 points apiece.

University of the Ozarks was eighth (203), University of Arkansas at Fort Smith ninth (255), Lyon College 12th (348) and Central Baptist College 13th (386).

Individually, Joshua Clethen of Allen won the event in a time of 25 minutes, 16.9 seconds on the 8,000-meter course. Nathaneal Rankin of the University of the Ozarks was second in 25:28.5, while UCA's Hunter Henderson finished third in 25:28.8. Bennett Pascoe of ASU was sixth (25:38.9), Emilio Medina of UALR 13th (26:10.4) and Harding's Bartek Kwiecinski was 15th (26:13.8).

WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY

Georgia State wins LR Invitational

Georgia State finished with 53 points to win the Little Rock Invitational by 31 points over the University of Central Arkansas on Saturday at Rebsamen Golf Course.

Harding University was third (132), while the University of Arkansas at Little Rock was fourth (135) and Arkansas State University was fifth (146). The University of Arkansas at Fort Smith was 10th (269), Arkansas Tech University 13th (297), Ouachita Baptist University 15th (427), Henderson State University 16th (447), University of the Ozarks 17th (450), Hendrix College 18th (492) and Central Baptist College 19th (538).

Individually, Alicija Minczuk of Harding won with a time of 17 minutes, 33 seconds on the 5,000-meter course. Shanieke Watson of UALR was second (17:38.1). Gracie Hyde of UCA was fourth (17:53.3), Kandace Young of UAFS 15th (18:41.6) and Madison Grimm of ASU 18th (18:49.0).

FOOTBALL

Lyon wins on late field goal

Ignacio Gomez kicked a 44-yard field goal with 18 seconds left gave Lyon College a 37-34 victory over Southwestern Assemblies of God (Texas) on Saturday in Batesville.

The Scots (3-4, 2-3 Sooner Athletic Conference) took over with 2:54 left after a punt and kept the ball for eight plays, setting up Gomez's kick.

Lyon led 34-21 going into the fourth quarter before Southwest Assemblies of God (4-3, 3-2) quarterback C.J. Collins threw touchdown passes of 3 yards and 42 yards to Samuel Northey to tie the game, with the latter coming with 8:08 left in the game.

Spencer Childress completed 12-of-24 passes for 186 yards with 3 touchdowns and 2 interceptions. Jacquez Parker led Lyon with 4 receptions for 87 yards and 1 touchdown. Jared Pumau led Lyon with 58 yards rushing on 13 carries.

Collins led Southwest Assemblies of God completed 30-of-57 passes for 477 yards and 5 touchdowns. Northey caught 11 passes for 149 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Berry rolls past Hendrix

Berry College (7-0, 5-0 Southern Athletic Association) jumped out to a 28-0 lead in the second quarter and rolled to a 35-14 victory over Hendrix College in Conway.

Berry's Isaiah Dawson and Joey Connors had two first-quarter touchdown runs, while TJ Ciresi caught a 15-yard pass from Heath Burchfield and Brandon Palmer returned a fumble 42 yards for a touchdown.

Ronnie McShan broke up the shutout for Hendrix (1-6, 0-5) when he returned an interception 100 yards for a touchdown with 2:37 left in the first half.

Berry's Mason Kinsey added a 36-yard touchdown run with 3:48 left in the game before Deondre Henry ran 9 yards for the Vikings' final touchdown.
